Tonight’s feature: January 2012
I enjoyed them all, though for widely differing reasons (except To Have and Have Not, which I couldn’t really get into, though Lauren Bacall [in her film debut!] was a marvel, and it was something to literally watch two people fall in love on camera). The best part of the To Have and Have Not making-of featurette was when it was noted that Howard Hawks’ told Ernest Hemingway that he wanted to make a movie from one of Hemingway’s books. Hemingway said, “Oh, yeah? Which one?” Hawks replied, “That load of crap To Have and Have Not.”
Old Favorite That Remains Great: The Maltese Falcon
New Favorite That I Did Not Expect to Like So Much: It Happened One Night
Most Weirdly Fascinating Face: Barbara Stanwyck in Double Indemnity
Most Unnecessarily Long Fashion Show: How to Marry a Millionaire
Catchiest Songs: Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
Most Interesting Cinematography: The Third Man
Lifetime Achievement Award for Always Being the Best: Singin’ in the Rain
I’ve seen three out of the eight movies listed here. I loveee the classics.

I loved The Third Man. Even though I knew about the big, third-act reveal, I still squealed with joy when it happened.
